The iPhone 16 is coming, with a planned launch in fall 2024. Even though it’s only been half a year since the iPhone 15 series was introduced, it’s already time to look ahead to what Apple has to offer next year. Here are the biggest iPhone 16 rumors and expectations!

iPhone 16 Release Date

The iPhone 16 series is poised to succeed the iPhone 15 models, with an expected announcement in September 2024 and a release later in the fall. Get ready for a fall full of exciting new Apple innovations and upgrades!

iPhone 16 Series Models and Sizes

Apple is reportedly planning to release four new iPhones again, with the Pro models reportedly featuring slightly larger displays. Here are the expected models and their sizes:

iPhone 16 : 6.1 inch
iPhone 16 Plus : 6.7 inch
iPhone 16 Pro : 6.3 inches (0.2 inches larger than its predecessor)
iPhone 16 Pro Max : 6.9 inches (0.2 inches larger than its predecessor)

In addition, there are rumors about an extra luxury model: the iPhone 16 Ultra. This would be equipped with an improved camera, a larger screen and other advanced functions. This rumor also circulated last year for the iPhone 15 Ultra, which was never released.

iPhone 16 Camera Upgrades

iPhone cameras have been the benchmark for mobile photography for years, and this year, expectations are set to rise again. Whether you’re a pro photographer or just enjoy snapping everyday moments, the iPhone 16’s cameras are expected to once again deliver impressive performance.

iPhone 16 Camera Design

There's speculation that the iPhone 16 will return to vertically-arranged cameras, like those seen on the iPhone 12. Not only would this provide a familiar look, but it would also have advantages in terms of internal component placement.

Periscope lenses in the iPhone 16

Rumor has it that both Pro models of the iPhone 16 will get a periscope lens, up from only last year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max. This should mean greater zoom capabilities without losing quality, since the lens is positioned diagonally and protrudes less.

Ultra wide angle lens

While the iPhone’s ultra-wide lens has improved over the years, it’s still stuck at 12 megapixels. However, the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) will reportedly sport a new 48-megapixel version, allowing for more detailed photos, especially in macro mode. The regular iPhone 16 (Plus) will retain the 12-megapixel lens, but it may also get the macro mode from the current Pro models.

Tetraprism Lens

The iPhone 15 Pro Max was the first to introduce a tetraprism lens, which bounces light four times for 5x zoom. It looks like this advanced lens will also make its way to the smaller iPhone 16 Pro, meaning you won’t need the biggest model for the best camera.

New Capture Button

According to insider information from Weibo user Instant Digital, the iPhone 16 will reportedly feature a new "Capture Button." This touch-sensitive button, placed below the power button, will make it easier to take photos and videos without opening the camera app. It's also possible that the button will act as a shortcut to other camera functions.

Connections

Starting with the iPhone 15 series, Apple will only use USB-C ports, and this will also apply to the iPhone 16 series, in accordance with European Commission guidelines.

New Colors

Rumors have it that the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) will get two new colors: yellow and gray titanium, joining the existing natural, blue, white, and black titanium.

Design Changes

There are indications that the design of the camera island will be adapted for filming spatial videos, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro (Max). This could also be the case for the iPhone 16 (Plus).

Battery

With the iPhone 16 series, we're expecting larger batteries for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Notably, the iPhone 16 Plus is reportedly getting a smaller battery, which could mean shorter battery life than its predecessors.
